Execute an Oracle Stored Procedure With Nested Table as a Parameter from Mule flow

Execute an Oracle Stored Procedure With Nested Table as a Parameter from Mule flow

The objective of this tutorial is to demonstrate the steps required to execute an Oracle stored procedure with a nested table as one of the parameters from a Mule flow.

To demonstrate the application, I will be using a simple use case of inserting employee records by calling an Oracle stored procedure with a nested table as one of the parameters. Each employee record has two columns: the employee’s department and the nested table of a data structure with employee name and employee number as attributes.

A New Way to See Differences in SQL Compare

In the latest release of SQL Compare, we’ve added a brand new way to examine the differences between two objects in your database.

Until now, SQL Compare has relied on the SQL difference viewer to convey the differences between an object in the source database and its counterpart in the target database:

10 Most Common Commands for MongoDB Beginners

This article lists the top ten most commonly used commands for MongoDB beginners. Please feel free to comment and make suggestions if I failed to mention any important points!

1. Log Into MongoDB

The following command can be used to log into the MongoDB database. Make sure that the user with credentials such as username and password exist in the database mentioned in place of dbname.

Principles of Sharding for Relational Databases

Principles of Sharding for Relational Databases

When your database is small (i.e. tens of GB), it’s easy to throw more hardware at the problem and scale up. As these tables grow, however, you need to think about other ways to scale your database.

In one way, sharding is the best way to scale. Sharding enables you to linearly scale your database’s CPU, memory, and disk resources by separating your database into smaller parts. In other ways, sharding is a controversial topic. The internet is full of advice on sharding, from scaling your database infrastructure to why you never want to shard. So the question is, whose advice should you take?

Bad News: Your Favorite Database Isn't the Best

We decided to answer one of the key questions in the database world: Which is faster, PostgreSQL or MySQL? This analysis has never been possible to do objectively before, but with recent advances, it now is. So we did it.

Database benchmarks are common, but true production measurements are rare. By working with large amounts of anonymized performance metrics from VividCortex's customers, we extracted the essential parameters of database performance with a mathematical model and analyzed the results of production database metrics in real-world environments.

Using Multiple Custom SQL Formatting Styles in SQL Prompt

Using Multiple Custom SQL Formatting Styles in SQL Prompt

Usually, when coding SQL, you will want to go along with the coding style of the team you are working with. In my previous articles on SQL Prompt, I explained why a team of programmers might want to adopt a T-SQL coding standard, how SQL Prompt could make this easier, and then how to use SQL Prompt to define and share a custom SQL Prompt style (the Louis Davidson style), allowing everyone to enforce this excellent standard in their own code, with minimal effort.

There is just one problem with this, of course, and that’s that there are various reasons why each developer may want to stray, temporarily, from the prescribed standard. Perhaps they need a slightly amended style that makes it easier to compare two different versions of some complex code. Perhaps they need a different style for publishing code to their blog or into a Word document or email. Perhaps the agreed "corporate" or "team" style simply makes their eyes water. Similarly, if you are a consultant who works at multiple locations regularly, you may have a style for each customer, and one to format the code as you like it while you are changing it.

Spring Data MongoDB With Reactive MongoDB

Spring Data MongoDB With Reactive MongoDB

Spring Data MongoDB has been updated to leverage the reactive programming model introduced in Spring Framework 5. This was followed by support for reactive data access for NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, and Redis.

With the rise in popularity of NoSQL databases, MongoDB has rapidly gained popularity in the enterprise and the Spring community.

How to Interact With a Database Using Async Functions in Node.js

How to Interact With a Database Using Async Functions in Node.js

So far in this async series, we’ve covered Node.js style callbacks, the Async module, and promises. In this final part of the series, we’ll learn about async functions (AKA async/await). To me, async functions are the most exciting thing to happen to JavaScript since Ajax. Finally, we can read JavaScript code in a synchronous manner while it executes asynchronously as it always has.

Async Functions Overview

Async functions are a relatively new feature of JavaScript (not specific to Node.js). Support for the feature first landed in Node.js v7.6 via an update to the V8 JavaScript engine. Because async functions rely heavily on Promises, I recommend you read the previous post before continuing.

Mapping JPA in Your Database With the Time API

Mapping JPA in Your Database With the Time API

Many times, we encounter the need to store date and time in our database. Throughout application development, we need to make CRUD operations on that stored data. In my case, I use Spring Boot with Spring Data as a persistence layer. I'm still not sure whether the word “layer” is truly appropriate in modern development techniques, but nevertheless, we'll say that Spring Data is my persistence layer.

As a database, I use Postgres, which has quite a few nice features. And what's most important is that it's free!

How to Interact With a Database Using the Async Module in Node.js

How to Interact With a Database Using the Async Module in Node.js

The first pattern we looked at in this series was the Node.js callback pattern. As I mentioned there, that pattern alone will only get you so far. Eventually, you’ll want to construct asynchronous workflows that process elements in a collection serially or run several tasks in parallel. You could write your own library, but why reinvent the wheel when you could just use Async, one of the most popular Node.js libraries ever? In this post, we’ll take a look at Async to see how it can help you write asynchronous code in Node.js.

Async Module Overview

Async is not included with Node.js, so it must be installed via NPM (Yarn and Bower work, too) using a command like npm install async –save. A native means to reason about Async processing, Promise, eventually made its way into JavaScript and Node.js. We’ll cover promises in the next part of this series. For now, let’s focus on Async.
